Germanistik I - Germanistische Sprachwissenschaft

Welcome to the Department of German Linguistics (Germanistik I)!

The Department  of German Linguistics (Germanistik I) at the University of Duesseldorf is directed by the Chair of German Linguistics (Univ.-Prof. Dr. Alexander Ziem). The Chair's team currently includes about 15 postdocs and PhD students as well as several research assistants.

Our areas of teaching addresses a wide range of linguistic subjects and approaches, such as cognitive semantics (with a particular focus on frame semantics), text- and discourse-analysis, construction grammar as well as theoretical foundations of linguistics. Our BA program focuses on the basics of linguistics, approaches of applied linguistics, including, but not limited to, linguistic analyses of advertising, language in media and politics). Our BA as well as our  MA-programs are well recognized by foreign students.
